Hold on! before you start gathering up your torch and pitchfork, I’m not talking about my wife. I’m talking about my work. Don’t get me wrong, I do love my work but sometimes it’s just so hard to go in to the office because I know I will be bombarded with a billion questions about everything random you could think of related semi-remotely to my business and feel like I never get anything done. Sometimes it’s better for me to ditch the place for a couple hours to actually get things accomplished. This morning on my way to work, I received a phone call from a client needing urgent help with their server so I exited the freeway to hit a local Starbucks and log in to take care of things. To my dismay, the Starbucks of choice is packed to the gills with ‘buckers. Every table was full and there was a line way out the door. HOLY COW! 9:30 am at Starbucks must be the time to get a cup ‘o joe or something. Not to be outdone, I head across the street (that brings up a whole different topic) to another Starbucks and find the same thing. Two blocks down, same thing! What in the heck? It’s now 10am and the “urgent” issue is in desperate need of attention. Last chance… Desert Ridge. Michelle used to work at the Starbucks there and I think I remember her talking about it being moderate in the mornings. Besides, I could sit in the courtyard and get job done if need be.
Yep! I was right and providence has shined down on me this day. I stroll in, purchase a froofy coffee drink (not a big coffee guy), and head out to the courtyard where I now sit, disaster averted, writing this blog post. I happen to comment to the Barista about the previous visits and was then reminded of the Starbucks Coffee Break going on right now and everything became a whole lot more clear. Although I don’t recall seeing a lot of drip coffee in hands around the ‘Bucks. I’m assuming that’s the whole idea. Anyway…
Sitting here, observing… I would love to go into the hilarity of what I am going to call the “Mommy’s Stroller Brigade” but I just don’t think I could do it justice. I will leave that to a more seasoned witness of the phenomenon (Feel free to comment if you know what I am talking about). I would love also to show some pics of the cutest kids on the planet playing in the fountain, but refrain from snapping as I don’t want to be pummeled by their ever-so-vigilant parents. So I sit here by the fountain, gracing in the wonderful 70-ish weather here in Phoenix, AZ and basking in the momentary freedom I have stolen from the daily “Ball and Chain”.
I will end with this simple advice (and I’m not trying to sound like a life coach or anything). Take a moment today to bask in the bliss of a new surrounding and stop to soak up the randomness of your environment. Even if it’s only for a minute, life goes to fast to not stop once in a while for a breath of fresh air.
Until next time! (back to work now)
Brent
